Kia Kaha lap quilt

The winter weather is not great for photos today - was too windy this morning to go outside and now the rain has well and truly settled in - so just some inside shots for this little lap quilt (which is 32" x 32" in size).

I used a Moda charm square pack that has been in my stash for a while, called Simply Style by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. for Moda; the backing is a pale teal print and the binding is a navy polka dot.

The pattern is called 'Charlotte' and comes from a Me & My Sister Designs collection called "3 Times the Charm!' (published by Leisure Arts). It was very quick and could easily be made in a day.

I free-motion quilted flowers in the white spaces of the main area and a swirly-ball 'vine' along the borders (as done on the sample quilt in the pattern book).

I've made this for a local lady who had an unfortunate accident and will be stuck in a wheelchair for quite a few months as she works on the recovery from her injuries; I've made this to help keep her warm when out and about and called it 'Kia Kaha' (Maori for 'stay strong').

A warm mid-winter welcome to all my visitors from Myra's Busy Hands Quilts Finished or Not Friday linky party!  And also those from Kelly's Needle and Thread Thursday!

#summer - a lap quilt

My third quilt finish of 2018, which I finished at during Easter...they are lap quilts for our two black leather sofas in the sitting room.

Measures 54"x50" (legs not included!)

I've called it #summer because of the pattern and the fact that the pair of quilts will always remind me of our first (and very, very hot) summer in this Hunter Street house. It is on my to-do list for the 2018 Finishalong's first quarter goals and is completely made from my stash.

For this quilt I just used straight-line quilting.

Is from a pattern called 'Weave' by Me and My Sister Designs from their book '12-Pack Quilts' and the backing is made with leftover yardage.

Here it is with its buddy quilt Summer Buzzcut:

Summer Buzz

My first quilt finish of 2018 (but have taken until now to get photos as was waiting to finish its 'buddy' quilt too)...they are lap quilts for our two black leather sofas in the sitting room.

Measures 59" square.

Completed in January, this was my summer project and first on my to-do list for the 2018 Finishalong's first quarter goals and is completely made from my stash!

Is from a pattern called 'Buzzcut' by Me and My Sister Designs which is in their book '12-Pack Quilts' and took me quite a few hours (I watched full seasons of 13 Reasons, The Crown second series, the third series of Reign and the Virgin Queen mini-series on Netflix while cutting, piecing and quilting).

We had a stinking hot summer here and on many days it was almost too hot to move outside, so it was nice to have an excuse (like I need one anyway!) sit in the sewing room in whatever breeze I could garner between the window and the back door.

Hot Cross Buns...at last!

Well this only took about five years to finish! And then another four weeks waiting for a decent break in the grotty 'summer' weather to get outside for photos!

I first patched this quilt top in 2012, using a layer cake of Me and My Sister for Moda's 'Amelia' design, with a gorgeous white and black polka dot sashing fabric.

I used a Moda Bakeshop pattern by Wendy Poling - very easy to do and so effective. Just after New Year I finally found time (thanks to all the rain that was falling) to sit and watch lots of tennis on TV and get this quilted up.  I used a 'daisy-chain' stipple all over and in the outer border I did a wavy line/vine with leaves.

It is a single bed quilt measuring 55" x 65" and the backing is a lavender flannel.

March 2018: the lucky recipient - Miss Ruby Morris...Happy 8th Birthday Ruby!! Apparently she is very pleased with the colour and softness of the purple flannel backing!

And "kia ora" to all my visitors from Amanda Jean's Finish It Up Friday linky party!
