Lucia's Rag Doll

I wanted to make a little something for my cousin's little girl for her 2nd birthday...

a hunt through my pattern collection turned up this adorable (and super easy) rag doll.

A second hunt, this time through my stash of fabrics, 

and I knew the doll would have 'red' hair (in honour of her Nana Jan, I might add!)

The hair is made of knotted fabric...and has earned her the name of Dana (after my sister-in-law, 

as her hair is similar, according to little Lucia and her Uncle Reece, who named her).

The eyes are appliqued, with hand-stitched edging and lashes.

The mouth is also hand-stitched.

The doll is about 21" (53cm) tall.

The pattern, called  'Pip', was from Australian Patchwork and 

Stitching magazine, Vol 11 No 1 2010.

Level Four Lockdown quilt

This was my main Covid-lockdown project in the couple of weeks holiday between 

'online school' terms. I had been planning to make it for a while - during January/February 

I had spent time sewing the triangle scraps (leftover from making various other blocks 

and binding in the past three years) onto the corners of 2.5" white squares. 

There are two different whites here - a plain sold and a tone-on-tone print.
I think it works out at about 390 squares in total?

I then spent a day or two creating the rows, following the instructions in Sunday Morning Quilts 

by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison (the Up, Up and Away pattern).

For the quilting I did the same as the quilt in the book, with straight lines running vertical and horizontal through the on-point squares.

I love the variety of colours and prints - they remind me of previous quilt projects that I've made.

The backing is yardage from my stash.

The quilt measures 43" x 54" and I used the black and white dotty binding that I really love.

It has definitely been popular in the lounge as the nights get cooler!

My Mystery Mosaic

This was one version of the MeadowMist Designs Mystery Quiltalong for 2019-20 

(I had pulled two lots of fabric from my stash and couldn't decide between them, so made two!)

The quilt finished at 58" x 69" and is such a lovely, vibrant colour scheme.

The quilting was kept fairly simple, with some echo quilting and a geometric point-to-point design in the larger black shapes.  The backing was also from my stash.

I had the top finished back in February but did not get the chance to quilt it until during the 

Covid lockdown and had no idea what I would do with it when finished.

The day I finished binding it, I heard news of one of my awesome pupils from last year, Jesse, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and undergoing chemotherapy treatments. When I saw the quilt drying on the floor of my lounge the next morning, he was the first person I thought of and I knew I wanted to gift it to him, so I appliqued his name to the bottom edge.

Update: 27th June 2020: Jesse had the wonderful news this week that his chemo treatments 

have been successful and he has been given the all clear! Well done Jesse!!
