Have finished this bag - one of a set of five as the pattern uses one Layer Cake, plus a yard of fabric per bag, to make five bags!
This was my first attempt at the
On The Move bag pattern (although it was not one of
my 2013 goals, I saw the layer cake at my favourite quilt shop and knew it would be ideal for this project!) I have enjoyed it, though will make a few modifications to the construction I think to better suit my style.
On the Move is a
Moda Bakeshop pattern by Wendy Poling from
Sewing in the Wendy City blog; and this bag was made with much love for my wonderful cousin and bestie Jan (who had a birthday last week!)
I enjoyed putting together the panels and quilting it before turning it into a the bag. I think though that with the next four I will revert to my usual method of creating the bag/lining by stitching the two layers to each other inside out, leaving a gap in the seam, turning the right way out, then closing the gap and top-stitching the top edge. I prefer that method and finish.

Tried a bit of free motion quilting over most of the panel!
A loop de loop/flower motif. |
|
Did a bit of straight line quilting on this fabric; also shows strap attachment. |
|
Tried a bit of FMQ to edge the little flowers on here. |

Side B. Bag measures 16.5" x 14.5" |

Fabric strips are from a layer cake of Frolic by Sandy Gervais for Moda;
used a multi-coloured thread for the quilting. |
