2015 finish: Zigzags for Jack - single bed quilt

Created this during the January holidays, completed the quilting during the April holidays...is another finish from my goals for the 2015 Finish Along challenge 2nd quarter that is being hosted by Adrianne from On The Windy Side...

It is a (very belated) 13th birthday gift for Jack, the eldest son of one of my best friends, who this year has headed off to boarding school in Dunedin. His mum Rachel gave me colour options of blue and gold (Otago) or red and black (Canterbury). I figured red and black would look more masculine for this design, which I had been wanting to try for ages!

It is a single bed/twin bed quilt, made using Amanda Jean's Easy Chevron pattern - and it certainly was easy. Fabrics are from Spotlight: a red solid and a black with tone-on-tone spots.

Have just quilted with a simple echo lines that follow the shape of the zigzags and then straight lines across the border from the main panel to the binding.
It is backed with a red/white chevron minky and a strip of black minky (all so soft to touch) which is quite heavy so I just used flannel as the batting. The binding is just the same red solid as used for the chevrons on the front.

62" x 72"

WIP

This is waiting to be quilted...(sorry, was an inside, night-time photo)...

It is a lap quilt pattern called 'Little Leap Frog' written by Janeen Getz for the Project12Quilts.com and the fabrics were fat quarters from Spotlight.

Baby quilt

Another holiday completion and one of my Finish Along Quarter 2 goals: a baby quilt, made as a super large free motion quilting practice 'sandwich'...

The centre strips have loops, daisies or straight line stitching, while the outer border has straight lines with crosses and the end borders have large crosses with alternating fancy stitch (trying out one of the in-built embroidery stitches on the machine).

The backing is a soft pink paisley and the binding is a Remix Ovals in aqua on aqua.

Tracey's Couch Cosy

Good things take time and today Tracey (who celebrated a significant birthday back on Valentine's Day) finally received her 'Couch Cosy' lap quilt! And am sharing my completion this week with the Friday Night Finish link-up party at Crazy Mom Quilts...
Quilted in black and red on the top, mid grey on the back: tri-diagonal lines through the stripped blocks, alternating red-black-red, and a criss-cross surrounded by straight line stitching in the square-framed blocks, in black.
Approx. 125cm square (50" sq), made with fabrics purchased from Kits'n'Things in Invercargill. The pattern was based on Julie@Jaybird Quilts' 'Radio Way' design.
The backing is a wide Robert Kaufman backing, and the binding is made from alternating strips of grey solid and black/red/grey prints.
Testing it out! Just in time for winter snuggling!
