WIP Wednesday

Have sewn the 'bricks' together on this Kiss Me By The Garden Wall quilt, made using a couple of 10" stacks of Riley Blake 'Fancy Free' that have been sitting in the stash for a year or two.

Have found a gorgeous orange and pink Sugar and Spice chevron and spots print to use as the fat yardage strips that go between each block of four rows of bricks...watch this space!

Joining in with Lee's WIP Wednesday! Come back next week and see if I get it finished!

WIP Wednesday

Getting started on my Finish Along Q3 goals...

A small Folk Art Christmas lap quilt...

A Sweet Jane pattern 'Jumping Jacks' lap quilt using a charm pack of Fandango...

A massive head cold has struck my energy levels low, am just debating about finding yardage to make borders to make the quilts a bit bigger....

2015 Finish Along - Quarter 3 Goals

I still have a couple of projects that didn't get finished in the Q2 round, but was pleased to get five off the list finished!

For this quarter of the 2015 Finish Along, hosted by Adrianne from On the Windy Side,  I am taking a deep breath and aiming to complete :

Two cushions made with leftover blocks from my '50c Mixture' baby quilt:
The quilting on my Hot Cross Buns flimsy:

The quilting on this 'Fancy' French General quilt:

The quilting on this quilt:

Put together and quilt this 2012 Moda Designer Mystery BOM set:

Make a 1 + 2 Easy quilt with these fabrics that I couldn't resist yesterday at Spotlight:

A half-square triangle quilt with these two charm packs:

This Me and My Sister quilt - I was excited to see I had the very same Kate Spain fabric in my stash!

And this Sweet Jane design, using a couple of charm packs that I've had for a couple of years (am trying hard to use up items from my stash during the rest of the year!):

Another big list, but with flimsies already made, and using precuts from my stash, I think it is achievable (I have more spare time with not coaching netball this year, as well as a my trainee teacher due to be on full control for four weeks, so I will not be having to spend my evenings or weekends with so much planning/prep this term) - I aim to do at least 30 minutes of sewing a day...more on weekends of course!

'50c Mixture' - baby buggy blanket or kick mat

I found some pieces of Remix Ovals in a drawer that I was cleaning out the other day beside my sewing machine, with a note attached telling myself to make a chequerboard quilt with them...so here it is!

The pieces of Remix (by Anne Kelle for Robert Kaufman) were leftover from the String of Pearls quilt I made last year.

It is just a small baby kick mat or buggy blanket, of 32" x 32"', with a bright yellow flannel on the back, and a black and white binding. I quilted in the ditch along all the seams, with white thread, then did horizontal lines along the middle of the squares.

It is made from 2" squares and when thinking of a name, with the word Remix, I thought of the good old Kiwi 50 cent mixture, with all the different colours of lollies.

A+ quilt

It has been on my to-do list to make a Plus quilt...have finally had a go at it,
using a mixture of blues and greens...

It is a lap quilt, measuring 60"x 60" - I loosely followed Jeni Baker's tutorial by using 4.5" squares (finishing size of 4") but instead of cutting five squares per plus I cut a middle strip of 12.5" x 4.5"

I used a chevron minky backing (with a strip of flannel as I was too lazy to try to match the chevrons in an effort to make the minky wide enough for the backing!)

I used a multi-stripe for the binding - it was another chance to try out machine sewing the binding on (as per Rita's tutorial at Red Pepper Quilts) - it is much faster than hand sewing!

And yes, it has been trying to snow for a couple of days...
we're not getting much here but it is making a mess all over Southland/Otago.

Here is the birthday boy who I made the quilt for; my friend's son Lachie turned 13 this month:

In this cold winter weather the birds are enjoying the free food we've got out for them -
check out the korimako (bellbird)...

...and the tauhou (silvereye/waxeye)...

Plus quilt flimsy

Today is Sew-turday, first day of the holidays!  I had the pieces for this lap size Plus quilt cut out a few weeks ago and have spent this afternoon sewing them together...

Is a mixture of denim/dark blues and grassy/lime greens. I used 4.5" squares so they finish at 4" when sewn. Each plus has a centre strip of (finished) 4" x 12".
