Thanks for visiting my blog Anna, and yes, I would love to visit the grand land of Canada one day!
Original post: Welcome to my blog-post for the Quilting Gallery's Blog Hop of November 2013!
It has been a busy few weeks thanks to end of year school reports, a four-day weekend in Auckland with three friends to cheer, dance and have a general great time at the Fast5 Netball World Series, the local Friday night lawn bowls started up, and there are all the preparations for pupil goal reviews and getting ready for our end of year school concert.
Phew. I am TOTALLY ready for a Christmas break!
In between all that, and using this blog-hop as a target date, I have been aiming to finish this jelly roll lap quilt...
I have straight-line quilted a quarter inch in from each edge of some of the strips, have FMQ'd a kind of daisy chain or four-leaf clover pattern and or chains of large circles along some strips, and plan to do a large zigzag along the leftover strips.
Watch this space to see how it all finishes up (which will hopefully be before the end of the blog-hop!)
My giveaway is celebrating all things New Zealand as I am a proud Kiwi and it is a pleasure to have visitors to my blog from all over the globe: up for grabs I have a 250g block of NZ-made Whittakers' L&P white chocolate - this chocolate has been infused with the taste of the world-famous-in-NZ fizzy drink known as L&P, which is set into popping candy that fizzes and crackles in your mouth - some love it, some hate it, but I think it is fun to try something different!
No big tricks to entering - just leave a comment telling me one of your favourite things about where you live and I will do a random draw at the end of the blog-hop! (Thursday - hi! I have sat here on the computer two nights in a row to reply to everyone's lovely comments, only to find that for some reason the comments are not showing up even though the website said it had published them! So please, I do read your comments and am trying to reply to them (or you may end up with two replies - goodness knows what is happening in cyberspace!) Thanks everyone - I am loving reading about where you live!
i love Ga. because it's beautiful but would love to visit your country
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! There are many who would like to come to NZ - I recommend it highly!
DeleteSimply that it's home.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean - nothing beats home!
DeleteI live in australia, and i love the beaches!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Jessica
I have visited some of your beaches - lovely places to hang out!
DeleteRight now I live in Florida so my favorite thing is the weather. No snow!
ReplyDeleteI have only ever seen Florida on TV or movies and great weather is certainly a standout feature! An A+ feature as I look out my window at the rain!
DeleteI live in eastern Kansas. I am close to quilt shops but far enough from everything to get lots of quilting done. I love my state because the people are friendly and generous. My current interest is embroidery quilts. Today I gave a program for local quilt guild about using the embroidery module to enhance quilts.
ReplyDeleteJane
How cool that you can share your skills with others in that way! Thanks for visiting!
DeletePretty fabrics and that chocolate sounds like fun! I love the US because you can see so many different areas (in terms of climate, scenery, attractions, etc) without ever leaving the country! The country is so varied depending on where you are! That said, I still love to travel internationally too! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, the USA is absolutely gi-normous compared to NZ! It gets quite diverse here too. I would love to visit your Grand Canyon, I think the sheer magnitude of it all would overwhelm me!
DeleteI live in the Sunshine State of Florida and I love the year round balmy weather :-) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYear round balmy weather sounds like bliss....
DeleteI love the diversity of my city, in people and neighborhoods. (Atlanta)
ReplyDeleteI love the diversity of a city too - so different to my little village of 200 houses!
DeleteMy favorite thing about living in Santa Fe is the colors of the high desert landscape here. I love all those black and white squares ... and I'm willing to try anything, food-wise, even the curious-sounding Whitaker's L&P White Chocolate ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool chocolate I can tell you! Santa Fe - brings up pictures of those tall cactus, would that be right? Mexican influences? Quite different to my dairy farming emerald green area here!
DeleteHaving recently moved to Florida, what I'm loving most is living close to the beach. I can't tell you how awesome it is to walk out my front door and hear the surf. It rocks!
ReplyDeleteOh that is one of my favourite sounds too, the waves crashing onto the beach - nature in action!
DeleteFavourite thing about where I live is probably how close we are to the fields, so we only need a 5 minute walk and we're already in the greens where we walk our dog. I could spend hours out there and I love nice, long walks :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win!
Oh you'd like my house - a no-exit gravel road at the end of my driveway, dog can run all over the place - stare down the sheep in the paddock, gallop after the wild rabbits, hide in the long grass...she loves it!
DeleteI live near 7 national parks and monuments. It is gorgeous here in a southern utah desert and red sandstone way. Saw Lord of the Rings last week (again on TV), desperately want to see your scenery. I love the small town friendliness and comfort that is here. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteQuite a different place to the green fields of this dairying countryside! I love LOTR - am hanging out for the next episode of the Hobbit movies!
DeleteI live in Columbia, SC, USA. Although we have a wonderful climate, many historical sites, the state house and an absolutely fantastic library system, my favorite thing is my quilt guild!
ReplyDeleteSounds like my kinda place! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteThank you for the chance to win. I'm from Saskatchewan Canada and right now we are Ina cold spell so not a lot to enjoy...lol
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine living in a climate like that! We were warned about twice this winter to expect snow...never turned up! Kids were most disappointed. We usually only get about two inches if it does snow anyway!
DeleteI love all the natural attractions (ocean, mountains, forest etc.) there are to visit so close to where I live.
ReplyDeleteSounds like NZ! Are you sure you don't live near me?? Thanks for visiting!
DeleteWhat a fun giveaway, I've never had that chocolate! The favorite thing about where I live is being right on a river. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDo you have nice views? I grew up next to a river. Not so much fun in a flood though! Thanks for visiting.
DeleteWe live in an area where the river is an attraction for canoeing. When I was younger I love to canoe the river Now I go down the river in a raft. Thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteSounds like a relaxing day out! (Unless there are rapids to go through?) Thanks for visiting.
DeleteFun giveaway - teh popping sounds interesting!!!! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! Enjoy the blog hop!
DeleteYour jelly roll quilt is fabulous! I cant wait to see more of it completed! Thank you for the lovely giveaway- I loved learning a little about New Zealand! I am from southeast Michigan USA and I love that we have lots of farmers markets and art galleries!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had more markets here - it is slowly becoming part of the culture - I just live so far from the major towns that it is a mission to make it in to the market sometimes. And yes, I am keen to get the jellyroll finished too!
DeleteYou had me at white chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI live in the beautiful Willamette valley in Oregon USA. Never too hot or too cold. And always green and lovely!
Any pictures I have seen of Oregon show a beautiful countryside - I hope you have a good winter!
Deleteoooh chocolate!! I love that in Australia we have some really unique animals that can't be found anywhere else! So I've been able to see them in the wild and not just in zoos.
ReplyDelete--Jo-- patchaday [at] gmail [dot] com
You have some crazy animals! Most of which would creep me out! I did love seeing the koalas and kangaroos at Australia Zoo last year, very cool, and those crocodiles!! Amazing!
Deletei love the seasons here in kentucky. some days are too hot and others are too cold but overall watching the seasons change is awesome. how about you what is your favorite? babscorbitt@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYes I love the changing seasons too - can't imagine living fulltime in a place where the flower garden always looks the same - at the moment my peonies are in full bloom, roses are all out, the spring daffodils are long gone. But then I love the autumn colours and the crispness of winter too.
DeleteWhat a fun giveaway! I'm from Texas in the United States, and I love Texan friendliness!
ReplyDeleteemily@thecaffeinatedquilter.com
I have met a Texan, a lovely lady who visited my classroom to see how we operate here in NZ (she was a teacher too). Her Texan drawl was a bit much for me though, while she thought we kiwis talk TOO fast! I guess we get used to our 'normal' stuff.
DeleteI appreciate the quaintness of my village of 175 souls!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance :)
Ooh, mine is a bit bigger than yours! About 600 in the township - the rest is all farmland.
DeleteI really would like to taste the chocolate. The packaging is so elegant. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI like that we have all four seasons but not too many extreme high or low temperatures. And we have a very low risk of natural disasters. I am thankful for that each time I read about places hit by tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.
ReplyDeleteOh I agree totally! There is always someone worse off isn;t there? I too live in a fairly quiet area - the occasional flooding and the ever-present threat of a major earthquake maybe as we are near the southern faultline.
DeleteThat we have the best weather in NZ on the East Coast ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I am hearing you! I've been up that way just once - right when the corn crops were in full growth, have never seen anything like it! Big difference to fields full of cows!
Deleteoh my chocolate and fabric....must be in heaven...i like the varied geography of canada
ReplyDeleteI have Canada on my bucket list!
DeleteI love going to the beach...can't avoid it in California :)
ReplyDeleteNot jealous.. not at all.. nope...nada...not green with envy...
DeleteI love that we don't usually have snow and ice in the winter.
ReplyDeleteWe get a bit frosty here, wet and windy too. Not much snow at all. Am enjoying the awesome spring weather we have had the past two months. Thanks for visiting.

ReplyDeleteFunny how food is often a factor in enjoying somewhere! Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteI love Wisconsin weather in the summer but winter is another story.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine! I hope it is kind to you this year!
DeleteI live in Oklahoma and I love the people, just plain folks and our American Indian heritage. Thanks. I am here for the party! crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
ReplyDeleteI just want to sing when I hear Oklahoma! The Indian heritage has always fascinated me (my hubby apparently has Cree in his ancestry thanks to an Irish great grandparent who came west via the USA).
DeleteOk I tried but I really don't like where we are living at the moment and could not think of anything at all. That candy sure sounds yummy though!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Sounds like you are a bit blue! I hope things pick up for you soon!

ReplyDeleteHaving said that New Zealand is top of my bucket list!!
Oh you must come down one day! I have my ancestry in Scotland and would love to experience the history of the British Isles...MY bucket list!
DeleteI live in Switzerland and there is so very much I love about this country. Perhaps my favourite thing is the winter snow. Growing up in Ireland I never saw loads but loved it, now I get enough but not so much that we can't get on with normal day to day life. Thanks for a fab giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYes, the kids love the snow, the adults just find it disruptive! I would love to have a white Christmas in a beautiful place like Switzerland though!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great place - I have seen it on many movies and TV shows - my sis-in-law was over that way and met many Amish people while on a missionary journey, she loved it!
DeleteOne of the things I love about Vermont is that it's unpretentious - you can just be yourself, and it's easy to get outside and walk, etc.
ReplyDeleteThat chocolate sounds very delicious!
oh Vermont! I am picturing forests and farmland and mountains? Would that be right? Away from the rat-race!
DeleteThat chocolate sounds very interesting. I love that we don't really have extreme weather (hurricanes/earthquakes) or and deadly wildlife.
ReplyDeleteI am on your page! It is the same here too!
DeleteI love the green-ness of where I live - lots of rice fields, trees, grass - it is beautiful. THanks for a lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteRice fields...quite different to my view of farm paddocks with cows and sheep on them!
DeleteOne of my current favorite things is that we are very blessed. We cannot take things for granted, because no one knows what the future holds, but I appreciate living in the US. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! As Robbie Burns said..."Enjoy it while you're living, for you're a long time dead!""
DeleteI like Northern New York because I have meet many great people here. I have moved a lot in my life and I have found that there is always something to like about where I have been.
ReplyDeleteI think life is what you make it and if you look for the good, you'll find it! I have to say, NYC is probably top of my bucket list - so different to where I live now, so big, so busy, I would be happy to sit and watch all the action!
