Fat Quarter Fizzy for Lizzy

This is one of my Littlest Thistle Finish Along 4th Quarter challenge projects: I love this one SO much, I went a bit photo mad! And it is Spring, so I wanted to have some spring flowers in the photos too...and I am also linking up with Crazy Mom's Finish It Up Friday and Needle and Thread Thursday at My Quilt Infatuation and Modern Tradition Quilts...
I completed my version of the Fat Quarter Fizz pattern...(update: to see who received it click here!)
...remember, when I'd first laid it out I wasn't happy and did some random cuts to resize some of the rows, so have renamed it Fat Quarter Fizzy, (as that was preferable to Fat Quarter Fizzer!)

It is made from two fat quarter bundles of  the Merry Little Girls Stonehenge range by Deborah Edwards and Linda Lucovico for Northcott Fabrics (purchased online at the FQ Shop) and bound with a purple polka dot cotton (which I think was from the Amelia range by My Sister and Me).
The back has a lovely white/cream flannel with tiny pink and green flowers. I quilted it all over with loops and flowers in a multi-colour thread (purple, turquoise, green, pink) on the front (which ran out right on the last stitch with about one inch of thread left - phew!) and a white thread on the back.

The completed quilt is about 58" x 68", just right for a large lap quilt or single bed.

And while wandering around the garden I HAD to take these photos...the peonies began to open up last week...

Just to prove to Brian that Rumbles DOES go outside...

    1. Thanks! The coloured thread just made it a bit more interesting. And yes, I look forward to the peonies every year...the coral sunsets and the reds are out, just waiting now for the pinks and the whites to follow!

  3. I love it. It's gorgeous! The colours are so very springlike as well. And wow your quilting!! I still haven't plucked up the courage yet to quilt one of mine. I love Spring too though it seems we have jumped straight to summer here.

    1. Thank you very much! I am still a newbie at self-quilting and can only say that you just have to take the plunge! Start with some small cot quilts maybe. Have a good week - I hope you are having better weather over there than we are at the moment (Spring is still being blended with Winter!)

    2. Oh yes. Lovely weather though a bit hot. It's not quite 11am and is 27 degrees C already. I know, I do need to just take the plunge (eek). I have a lap quilt I made quite a few years ago that I want to hand quilt but I think I am too much of a perfectionist. I don't want to ruin it.

    3. You can do it! (I admire anyone who does it by hand too!)

  4. Hello Jen,

Your quilt is a real beauty. I love the fresh cheerful colours, and the quilting goes perfectly with the fabrics. Great stroke of luck with the thread too.

It is a joy to see your garden - such a contrast with damp dreary England.

Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!

    Love, Muv

    1. Cheers Muv! I have to admit though, that since the photos were taken we've been just as damp and dreary here - almost as if winter has returned just for a laugh! Sigh, can't do much about the weather...

    1. Cheers Jennie! We have to document it when he appears outside during the day, as usually he takes his 'cat-on-the-bed' job description very seriously!

Beautiful! And your garden looks lovely, too - so jealous with all of the snow have here right now :).

    1. Oh yes, we saw all the snow that fell north of New York on our news bulletins - we just don't get it like that here where I am, it amazes me to see so much of it. I hope the thaw doesn't cause too many problems when it happens!

  8. What a pretty quilt! Purple is my favorite color. The quilting is fantastic! It is just turning wintry here and your garden makes me long for spring!

    1. Thanks! I am having a giggle because I think the day I took the photos was about the last sunny day we have had for about a month now! We have almost had our annual rainfall in one month! Sigh, and it is supposed to be summer here....

  9. My purple loving daughter would be all over this quilt! The daisy meander quilting pattern is so cute. Lovely spring where you are!

    1. Thanks for the kind comments! I am excited to be giving the quilt to the recipient this weekend and hopefully she will be as excited as your daughter might be if it was her! However our Spring became a prolonged repeat of a wet winter after I took those photos...we have had three fine days this week, fingers crossed it is the sign of summer turning up at last!
