Summer Swoon

This was created from 16 fat quarters from a bundle of Sandy Gervais' design 'Well Said'.

The pattern is 'Swoon Sixteen' by Camille Roskilley (Thimbleberries).

I made the blocks in the January summer holidays
and got the quilting finished in the July school holidays.
Have been waiting for the right day to get some photos.
Here are some close-ups of some of the blocks.

I have realised I completely forgot to add the border around the outside!
Ah well, it still looks fine (and meant I had plenty of yardage for the backing I guess).

For quilting I used free-motion sewing: framed pebbles in the white,
double echo lines in the centre stars, a double-ended swirl in each of the 'points',
a fan in the side shapes and curved lines in the corner shapes.
I matched the thread colour to the fabric, so there was lot of changing for some blocks.

The sashing has a loopy side to side motif.

It measures 72"square and I plan to keep this one.
With the cat print in the backing, it seems Rumbles has given his approval...

  1. You can never go wrong with a Swoon quilt, and you hit it out of the park! I love the sherbet colors! And wonder custom quilting!

  2. So beautiful! I love Sandy's modern palette, and your quilting is WOW. (I can't recall, do you quilt on a domestic or a longarm?) This pattern is on my bucket list, and your finish just moved it up a few notches. : )

  3. Cheers Michelle! I had been holding that fat quarter pack for a couple of years so it was good to be able to use some of it (still have about 12 FQs left plus a panel). I quilt on my domestic Elna - that's why some of my echo lines aren't the straightest, as I've got the quilt bunched up in the throat. I have seen some ruler work videos so maybe that's something to look into learning to do in the future.
