Gypsy Diamond

Measures 40"square.

This was made at the start of the year with leftovers from the Gypsy Mama quilt and I finally got time to do the quilting on it during the Level Four lockdown earlier this year.

For the quilting I did different FMQ motifs in each of the strips, with a simple echoed four-petal flower in the diamond centre.

The backing is a lavender-coloured butterfly print, also from my stash.
The quilting designs show up well on the back.

Summer Growth baby quilt

Measures 16.5" x 20"

The other of a pair of quick finishes made during the Level Four lockdown earlier this year,
using scraps from my stash.

It also has the bird flannel backing and for this quilt I free-motion quilted a leaf motif
within the coloured strips and side to side lines in the sashings.

Merry of Soul baby quilt

Measures 16.5" x 20"

One of a pair of quick finishes during the Level 4 lockdown earlier in the year
(finally got around to putting the photos up on the blog!)

Used up some scraps from within my stash; and a bird flannel as the backing.

To quilt it I used a herringbone stitch, with my machine's embroidery stitches, to quilt along the lines.

Into the Light - lap quilt

This is a lap quilt that I made for my dear friend Lucy, who wanted something that might be raffled or auctioned for her AlAnon family support group (though now that she has seen it, I think she might find it hard to part with herself LOL!)

Lucy wanted the group emblem to feature on the quilt, and when I saw the Pixelation pattern, by Myra of Busy Hands Quilts, I thought it would make the perfect backdrop as I like the idea of the gradation from dark blues into light blues.

The quilt measures 56" x 66" and I adapted the pieces for the triangle to make HSTs for the edge of the triangle and used solid squares for the rest of the triangle. The centre circle is foundation pieced from scraps of whites.

I used a simple diagonal quilting pattern across the main blocks of the quilt, with a small stipple in the blue triangle and a variety of FMQ patterns in the various pieces of the white circle.  Within each corner of the triangle I free-motion-quilted key words from the AlAnon prayer: serenity, courage, wisdom.

It is completely made from my stash, including the blue minky backing (so soft!!) and I used the leftovers for another smaller lap quilt (post to come later once I get photos).

Crimson and Clover

This is one of my favourite baby quilt patterns and I grabbed some fabrics from my stash to create this 35" x 36" quilt for the new baby daughter of our ex-neighbour, Megan Macbeth.

I love the pink and aquas, and who wouldn't love the cute elephants?!

I did an all over double-loop stipple for the quilting,
and used a black and white polka dot for the binding.

The llama flannel backing is pretty cool too!

The pattern is the quick and easy Craftbuds pattern 'Citrus and Mint'
I've used it a couple of times before.

Elijah’s Elephant

A small stuffed toy for my workmate Emma’s baby son, Elijah.

I had already made a lap quilt as a wedding present so thought a stuffed toy would be a nice change.

Found the pattern in my folder of magazine patterns; \
this is from Patchwork and Stitching Vol 12 No 4 2011.

He is about 21 x 31 cm in size and the fabric was in my stash.

It is quite canny that I picked an elephant as Eli has a little collection of elephants starting to gather in his room (artwork and toys).

Can’t Lock a John Deere Down!

Can you guess that this was a Covid lockdown project? I had the fabric ready, waiting for the chance to make it, so lockdown gave me time to do it (silver linings!)

The pattern is ‘Square Illusions’ by Jen Schaffer from issue 30 of Make Modern (digital) magazine and it came together really easily - it helps to have a design wall! I love that the pattern of the shapes takes over and it is hard to see where the blocks are (there are 30 twelve inch blocks).

The quilt measures 60” x 72” and I kept the quilting simple as there is so much already happening in the pattern itself. The backing is just a black and white print.

The quilt is for my friend’s son, Adam, who is a big John Deere fan, so I liked the three-colour scheme of this pattern to fit the brief.
