Two colourful baby quilts

Two 'twin' quilts made in December from scraps/leftovers, to donate to the NeoNatal Unit in Invercargill,

Bess wanted in on the action!

You Brighten My Day! measures 20" x 24".  I used leftover four-patches and set them out in same-colour rows. Both quilts have been straight-line quilted, on a diagonal for half the quilt, then in the other direction for the rest of the quilt.

Colourful Friends measures 20" x 24" as well, and I mixed the four-patches with larger squares using the animal print from the backing.

Jungle Gym baby quilt

This bassinet/cot quilt is intended for the NeoNatal Unit in Invercargill (once I have made a pile to take down there).

Used up some stash scraps and leftovers from some previous projects, and a small piece of animal print that was in my stash, it measures 19.5" x 24".

For the quilting I outlined the strips and the boxes in the animal print.

Benji's Blocks

This is a cot quilt, 24" x 28", that I made in December for the baby son of a lovely former pupil, Leah McLaughlan (now Collard), who has kept in contact with me on Facebook after having moved to Queensland as a youngster.

Baby Benji was born in November and Leah was happy with whatever I wanted to make, so I dug into my box of fabrics that are already cut into 2.5" squares and made a heap of four-patches that I then laid out diagonally in colour-ways.

The quilting is simply straight lines on a diagonal for half of the quilt, then switching direction on the other half.  The backing is a geometric animal print that has been in my stash for a while and inspired the colours on the front.

Vanilla Kisses and Wedding Wishes

This is a double-bed quilt I made in December as a wedding gift for my cousin Simon McGowan and his partner Kate Pavitt, who married (on a VERY hot summer day) in Wanaka on the 14th of January 2021.

Kate had requested whites/creams/off-whites, so I had been collecting fabrics since about September, to use in a pattern called 'Out of the Box' that I had found in my stash of patterns. It had been ripped out of a Better Homes and Gardens magazine (May 2019).

The quilt measures 64" x 72" - the photos aren't great for colour as the weather had been fairly ho-hum during the start of January and I simply had to take the photos at the last minute, just before we headed away to Wanaka for the wedding.

I quilted with a simple wavy 'check' and the binding was made with leftover strips of the different fabrics.

The backing is yardage of a tone on tone print in a soft white/cream.

Joining up with Cheryl's Favourite Finish Monthly Link-up so I can share this with my quilting friends around the world!
