Denim Hems tote bag

Finally now onto the catch-ups of the 2025 projects! 2025 was a year of upheaval in my life, due to my marriage breaking down, and for most of the last six months I was happy to be keeping my head above water, carrying on, and facing the changes ahead with strength and dignity.

This bag was a farewell gift for a work colleague, Pieta Hyland, who had been teaching at our school for 15 months in a maternity leave position, and we were car-pool pals for most days as we both lived in Invercargill.

Pieta is a big fan of sustainability and upcycling, so I knew she would appreciate a bag made out of old jeans that I've been hoarding in my stash; and yes, she was delighted with it!

I found a Sisterquilt tutorial on You Tube to give me guidance.

The gold thread I used for some accents is a vintage thread from a box of cottons given to be by an old family friend.

The bag measures about 32cm x 35cm and I gave it double handles (long and short) for carry options.

And the lining was also a print that has been in my stash for a while.

Jeans pocket attached to the inside...
