Mrs Perkins Giraffe #10

Completed this last weekend...a baby gift for my workmate Jodie Whitson-Morris, who is expecting her second baby in mid -June (on my birthday actually!) We held a baby shower for her on Monday as this is her last week at work.

Update! Baby Harper Maree Morris was born 13 June - a bit before my birthday but I will forgive the wee poppet!

This giraffe is of course a cousin to the other 9 that I have made so far, with just another ten to go until I reach my target of 20! (There are two ready-to-be-assembled giraffes in the basket, waiting, waiting...good things take time!)

Mrs Perkins #9, black and white version, Melly & Me Designs, approx 18
Jodie's eldest child, Corbin, has this orange giraffe on the right and adores it apparently! I am just thrilled to know that my stitching is holding up to the demands of a two-year old (he drags it around the house and takes it to bed etc)!

All in an evening! One lap quilt size flimsy quilt top...

My creative calling had to be answered yesterday, I hadn't had a chance to work on any projects for a couple of weeks. This flimsy took me about three-four hours to put together (in amongst having tea and reading a chapter of Divergent and watching rugby on TV).

On the shelf of the spare room I was forever walking past a Riley Blake layer cake that I bought two years ago with a birthday voucher. I thought I might be able to use it for a low volume quilt class I have on Craftsy but that uses 13" squares and this is a 10" square cake.

I don't know where but I am presuming I have read it or seen it somewhere online, but I decide to just cut the cake into pieces and then mix up the pieces to make a new block. I divided the layers into sets of similar colours firs then aimed to have one of each design in each block.

Will now have to think on how to border it...

Comma Quilt

Linking up with the Friday Night Sew-in on Crazy Mom Quilts - am just shooting out (excuse the pun!) to take the photos...it is the opening of duck-shooting season and all I can hear out there is the rumble and thud and pop of gunfire coming from what sounds like about a dozen different maimais near the river or on the surrounding farms...

Completed this Charm Pack Cherry (pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop) lap quilt with a 'random' pattern of free-handed straight lines of varying widths and in a range of colours (dark grey, light grey, black, orange and lime).
Close up of the quilting lines
Am in love with this colour scheme; it will be great to have in the lounge during the winter.

The backing, I used leftover panels and borders
As with the bags I made at Easter time, this is the Comma range by Brigitte Heitland from Zen Chic for Moda, plus a green spot from the Free Bird range by MoMo for Moda.

I do love autumn, don't you?!

...the next evening...quilt being used as intended...must be cosy!
