I finished this about a month ago and it is one of my goals for On The Windy Side's Finish Along but was hoping for some snow to arrive so I could get some really snazzy Winter Christmas photos, however despite telling us about three times that we were in for severe snow, the weathermen and women were wrong - the snow went everywhere else but Edendale!
I need to post to my blog before the Finish Along Quarter 2 ends, so here it is; the lighting is not great - the sun has arisen but the sky is very patchy with rain clouds (and I used the ipad not my camera!).
I used a charm pack of Moda's Kate Spain 'Joy', plus some fat quarters that I had picked up along the way and a neutral white tone on tone print, sewn in a simple square design with the border of half squares. It is a small lap quilt measuring 48" x 48".
I quilted straight lines to echo the squares, using a mix of red or green threads; for the border, three sides have been free-motioned in dark green with the words "We wish you a Merry Christmas" (yes, like the song), and the bottom border has got "And a Happy New Year!"
The binding is a black and white print covered in various ways from around the world of saying Merry Christmas!
The backing is a mix of a red solid and a green pinstripe.
Welcome to all my visitors from My Quilt Infatuation's Needle and Thread Thursday linky party and from Crazy Mom Quilts' Friday Night Finish It linky party!
Jen, very cheery quilt! Hard to think about Christmas already!
ReplyDeleteI know! It will come around soon enough! Time flies when you are having fun...
DeleteYou're well organised to have that sweet quilt finished already. A pity about the snow, that would really have confused us in the Northern Hemisphere!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...when I read everyone's summer posts I get quite envious of the temperatures being mentioned (but I do love the different seasons, we can't appreciate the summer unless we've had winter!)
DeleteWhat a great Christmas quilt, I love the colours together and the 'writing' on it. Since starting a blog I've really wanted to photograph a quilt in the snow and it's never happened, so I feel for you on that one, this quilt would have been perfect for it. But the photos you took still show it off really well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! I am keeping my fingers crossed, maybe Tuesday for snow (or so we are being told!) No doubt it will wait until the Spring, just when all our farmers are in the middle of calving and lambing seasons!
DeleteI trust you've got that snow this week Jen. You could pop out and take some new photos in the snow. I'm in Auckland and it's even cold here this week. Your quilt is lovely. Well done on the finish. I'm visiting as a member of the official 2015 Finish-Along cheerleading squad.
ReplyDeleteHi, yes that's right, we did get about 2 cm of snow - problem being, it was so wet at the same time that I didn't want to take my quilt out into it! Murphy's Law!
